Speaker is responsible for decisions regarding disqualification of members of Lok Sabha.
The Speaker of the Lok Sabha is the presiding officer of the lower house of the Parliament of India. As the presiding officer, the Speaker has several important responsibilities, one of which is to decide on matters related to disqualification of members of Lok Sabha.
According to the Constitution of India, the Speaker has the power to decide on questions of disqualification of a member of the Lok Sabha on the following grounds:
If the member has voluntarily given up his or her membership of the political party which he or she was a member of at the time of election.
If the member has been found guilty of any offence and has been sentenced to imprisonment for two or more years.
If the member is declared of unsound mind by a court of law.
If the member has a financial interest in any company or corporation which has a contract with the government of India.
The Speaker can also refer any question of disqualification to the Committee on Privileges or the Committee of Ethics for inquiry and report. The Speaker's decision on matters of disqualification is final and binding and cannot be questioned in any court of law.
Therefore, it can be said that the Speaker is the ultimate authority when it comes to decisions regarding disqualification of members of Lok Sabha.
