The largest part of the cropped area in India is under rice.
Rice is the most widely cultivated crop in India and it accounts for the largest cropped area in the country. According to the data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Government of India, rice is grown in over 43 million hectares of land, which is about 30% of the total cropped area in India.
Wheat is the second-largest crop in India in terms of area under cultivation, followed by maize and bajra. However, the total area under wheat, maize and bajra combined is less than the area under rice cultivation in India.
