Explanation
Gandhiji started the Dandi March, also known as the Salt Satyagraha, in 1930 against the imposition of Salt Tax laws by the British colonial government.
At that time, the British government had a monopoly on the production and sale of salt in India and imposed a heavy tax on the production and sale of salt by the Indian people. This had a significant impact on the Indian economy and was seen as a symbol of British oppression by the Indian people.
Gandhiji believed that the Salt Tax laws were unjust and aimed to challenge them by leading a peaceful march from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad to the coastal town of Dandi, where he and his followers would make their own salt by evaporating seawater.
