Explanation
The first newspaper in India was the Bengal Gazette, also known as the Calcutta General Advertiser. It was founded by James Augustus Hickey in 1780 and was printed in English. The newspaper gained popularity for its coverage of local news, events, and advertisements.
Jai Desh, Maratul Akbar, and Pioneer are all notable newspapers in Indian history, but they were not the first. Jai Desh was founded in 1936, Maratul Akbar in 1848, and Pioneer in 1865.
