Explanation
The first discovered and most studied Gibberellin is GA3 (Gibberellic acid 3).
In the 1930s, Japanese researchers discovered a group of fungal compounds that caused abnormal growth in rice plants, which they named "gibberellins" after the fungus Gibberella fujikuroi that produces them. Among the various types of gibberellins identified, GA3 was the first one to be isolated and studied in detail.
GA3 was found to be particularly effective in promoting stem elongation, which led to its widespread use in agriculture to increase the height and yield of various crops, including wheat, barley, and grapes. Since then, GA3 has been extensively studied for its effects on plant growth and development, and it remains one of the most commonly used gibberellins in agricultural applications.
While other gibberellins such as GA1, GA2, and GA4 have also been found to play important roles in plant physiology and are actively studied by researchers, GA3 is still considered the most well-known and thoroughly researched gibberellin.
