D: The NOTA (None of the Above) button was used in the EVMs for the first time in the 14th State Assembly Elections held in India in 2013. The Election Commission of India introduced the NOTA option in response to a Supreme Court order in 2013, which directed the commission to provide voters with the option of rejecting all candidates in the fray. The NOTA option allows voters to indicate that they do not want to vote for any of the candidates listed on the ballot. The introduction of the NOTA option was seen as a way to give voters a greater say in the electoral process and promote greater participation in elections. Since its introduction, the NOTA option has been available in all elections held in India, including Lok Sabha elections and state assembly elections.
