Explanation
The Jnanpith Award for 2017 was awarded to Krishna Sobti, an eminent Hindi writer, for her outstanding contribution to Indian literature. Krishna Sobti was born in 1925 in Gujarat, Pakistan and moved to India during the partition. She wrote extensively in Hindi and was known for her feminist and bold writing style. Some of her notable works include "Mitro Marajani", "Zindaginama", "Surajmukhi Andhere Ke", and "Ae Ladki". Sobti was also the recipient of several other prestigious awards including the Sahitya Akademi Award and the Padma Bhushan. She passed away in 2019 at the age of 93.
