Myrmecophily is a beneficial association between some flowering plants and ants. Myrmecophily comes from the Greek words "myrmex" (ant) and "philia" (love), and it refers to the ability of some plants to form specialized structures, such as extrafloral nectaries, to attract and reward ants for their services. Ants can provide several benefits to plants, including protection against herbivores and pathogens, seed dispersal, and soil aeration. In return, plants offer ants a source of food and shelter.
