The first androgenic haploid was raised by Guha and Maheshwari.
They were able to produce haploid plants from anther culture in Datura in 1964. Anther culture is a process in which haploid plants can be produced from the culture of anthers or microspores. This technique is widely used in plant breeding to produce homozygous lines quickly.
