Explanation
Transportation for life is not in vogue in India.
Transportation for life was a form of punishment where a convicted person was sent to a penal colony or a distant colony for life. This punishment was prevalent during the British colonial period in India, where convicted criminals were sent to countries like Australia, Tasmania, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
However, after India gained independence, the punishment of transportation for life was abolished and replaced by other forms of punishment. Currently, the common forms of punishment in India include death penalty, life imprisonment, and rigorous imprisonment.
