Explanation
World Theatre Day (WTD) is celebrated annually on March 27th to raise awareness about the value of theatre and its contribution to cultural and social development. It was first celebrated in 1962, and it was initiated by the International Theatre Institute (ITI), a non-governmental organization that is in formal association with UNESCO.
Each year, a different prominent theatre figure is invited to write an international message to be read at theatre events around the world. These messages are intended to promote the importance of theatre and its role in promoting cultural understanding and social cohesion.
