INTRODUCTION
Indian politics have faced various trends since independence. The politics during independence and the politics of today have a lot of differences. These trends are shaping the Indian government into new politics. Various factors like caste, religion, power hunger etc, are factors responsible for the increasing trend in Indian politics.
EMERGING TRENDS IN INDIANS POLITICS :-
- MULTI PARTY SYSTEM :- India has a multi party system, there are about eight National parties, 54 states parties and various regional parties. No single party dominates Indian Politics.
- ERA OF ONE PARTY DOMINANCE :- India post independence was dominated by one party; congress but after a decade or two it declined and various other parties came up. But again in 2014 the BJP is establishing the one party dominance era again.
- REGIONAL PARTIES GAINING IMPORTANCE :- The importance of National parties are declining day by day, no single party is able to establish the majority without the support of alliance with regional parties which made regional parties grow more stronger.
- DYNASTIC SUCCESSION :- politics is becoming a family business in India. The constituency of one party is passed on from generation to generation. The best example of this could be the Indian National Congress.
- DEFECTION :- This is one of the major problems of Indian political parties. Leaders changed their parties as per their convenience which created instability and corruption. There is one classic example of 1967 where Gaya Lal in Haryana changed his party twice in a day and once again within 15 days for which he was given the tag of 'Aaya ram and gaya ram' , by VC Shukla. Anti defection law was passed in 1985 as per 52nd amendment act to stop defections in Indian political parties.
- HUNG PARLIAMENT :- This term refers to the process when no party gets a clear majority and firm coalition to gain power. It has become the most common trend of Indian Politics.
- PERSONALITY CULT :- Personality of the leader holds great importance for Political parties. On the name of leaders the Political parties ask for votes. Even the slogans are formed on the names of leaders such as "Har Ghar Modi", 'Indira Lao Desh Bachao", etc where the names of leaders are used to attract the attention of voters.
- LACK OF IDEOLOGY :- These days political parties do not have firm ideologies, the main aim is to gain the power for which every party is following the same path. They keep changing their commitments in order to fulfil their interest. Many alliances are formed in order to attain power.
CONCLUSION
Indian politics holds different trends which keep on changing from time to time. These trends affect Indian politics and give them another shape. Political parties use different techniques to gain power. But without political parties democratic system won't work out good.
