Agriculture during independence was overcrowded which turned to low per capita income and reduced labour productivity. Agriculture depends upon nature and due to uncertainty of rain or heavy floods resulted in damage of productivity. High yielding seeds were not present which did not improve the production quality.

High yield seeds, irrigation canals, and better fertilisers were used. This resulted in an increase of agricultural outputs especially of food grains in a very short period of time which was hailed as the Green Revolution.
