INTRODUCTION
India is a secular country where people from different Caste, class, region and religion live. From the independence of India we are facing different problems out of which regionalism is also counted as the main one. Regionalism is a threat to the unity and integrity of a nation. Regionalism is love and attachment towards a particular religion.
FACTOR OF REGIONALISM :-
- GEOGRAPHICAL, HISTORICAL FACTOR :- Certain regions like north east areas are naturally divided from maim India which creates feeling of alienation due to lack of communication with other parts. Even the British are also responsible for playing a card of Regionalism among Indians and dividing them on the name Region.
- LINGUISTIC FACTOR :- There are many states in India which are divided only on the basis of language such as Andhra Pradesh.
- CASTEISM :- Caste also plays an important role in promoting regionalism as people of a particular caste prefer to stay in one area like Jats in Haryana , Martha in Maharashtra etc.
- DECLINING OF NATIONAL SENTIMENTS :- People love their Region more than the nation. Love for the nation is compromised over a particular Region. They try to identify themselves o. The basis of Region such as Marathi, Punjabi, Bengali etc.
IMPACT OF REGIONALISM :-
- FEELING OF SEPARATISM :- Feeling of separatism is generated among people and they start demanding a separate nation.
- VIOLENT MOVEMENT :- It also gives rise to many atrocities and violent movements such as Akali movement, Kashmir movement, Bodo movement and Naxalite movement.
- DEMAND FOR MORE AUTONOMY BY STATE :- States start demanding more autonomy and powers from centre which results in clashes between centre and states.
- DEMAND FOR SEPARATE STATES :- Many a time the feeling of regionalism also resulted in demand for the creation. Of a separate state from the existing state.
- THEORY OF SONS OF THE SOILS :- People put their Region above the nation's love. They declared a particular region which tends to only belong to them like Maharashtra for Marathas, Bengal for Bengalis and Punjab for Punjabis.
- DECLINING OF NATIONAL SENTIMENTS :- The feeling of regionalism declines the national sentiments among people. It is love for a particular Region in preference to a country.
CONCLUSION
From the above discussion it is clear that regionalism creates a great impact on Indian politics. It created the feeling of separatist among people which results in violence and atrocities and leads to decline of National sentiments.
